Play Worker

37 hours per week on a rota basis to include weekends

Assist with day to day educational and respite activities
Provide quality playcare within the OFSTED and EYFS framework policies and procedures

Reports to Respite Services Manager/ Head of Education Department

Works with children attending the respite service and their parents/carers
Management and staff, including students and volunteers
Schools and registering authorities

Main duties include:

  • Assist with planning, preparing and delivering quality play opportunities within a safe and caring environment
  • Providing comprehensive care for the children including collecting them from school and delivering them safely to parents or carers
  • Setting up the play space including moving furniture and play equipment
  • Providing refreshments and ensuring that hygiene, health and safety standards are met
  • Administering first aid when necessary
  • Consulting with children and involving them in planning activities
  • Helping with club administration, where necessary
  • Encouraging parental involvement in the club
  • Facilitating good communication with all members of the organisation, parents, and schools
  • Undertaking appropriate and relevant training
  • Keeping the work environment healthy, safe and secure
  • Working within the framework of the club’s policies and procedures

Essential qualities

  • Experience of working with Infants and children up to the age of 16 years old
  • Understanding the varied needs of children and their families
  • Understanding the issues involved in the delivery of quality play care
  • Understanding the issues of equal opportunities
  • Provide and facilitate safe and creative play
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Sound judgement and common sense
  • Sufficient understanding and use of English to ensure the well-being of the children*
  • Level 2 qualification in childcare/TA or experience working with children in a school or nursery setting
  • Willingness to undertake a relevant level 2 or 3 qualification
  • Passion for Education
  • Well organised and methodical
  • Hardworking and driven

  • Experience of working within a play-based setting
  • Experience of administration
  • Competent in using IT to support play and club administration
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Relevant qualification or willingness to work towards this

  • Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Experience of working in a total communication environment
  • Experience of basic Makaton signs
  • Experience and basic knowledge of OFSTED requirements.
  • Good sense of Humour
  • Good team player.
  • Potential to progress to a supervisory position following completion of further training
  • Experience of delivering EHCP provision for SEND children

Full Time Teacher

£30,000 p/a
QTS required Mondays Tuesdays Wednesdays Fridays and Saturdays

Embrace are recruiting for a QTS to work as our OFSTED lead as we work towards our first OFSTED certificate and become an OFSTED registered teaching and respite service.

The successful applicant will take charge of our home learning department, planning for our education and respite services throughout the week and also care of our children.

The successful applicant will carry out the planning and supervision for all lessons carried out in the Embrace Centre and also liaise with parents that are home schooling their children in order to help them catch up from lockdown.

Part of their duties will be to act as a Work coach for one of our supported apprentices with an EHCP carrying out an EYFS qualification Early Educators Qualification.

Their duties will also include:

  • Teaching/ OFSTED lead
  • Deputy Respite services manager
  • Responsibility for ensuring that Tapestry is updated daily
  • Supporting our staff to make home school packs and educational support tools for children with SEND
  • Project lead for our OFSTED project, responsibility for ensuring that all OFSTED and compliance paperwork is completed to the satisfaction of OFSTED and the high standards that we have at Embrace that make us a Covid-secure environment
  • Assisting in funding applications and monitoring and evaluation

Essential qualities

  • Experience carrying out SALT/OT/Physio programmes or willingness to learn
  • QTS
  • Good Team worker
  • Good sense of humour
  • Experience of working with special educational needs children
  • Basic Makaton skills (or willing to learn)
  • Used to working in a total communication environment
  • Able to plan lessons for week days and also the Saturday Club
  • Ability to draft risk assessments and lesson plans and support our junior staff in developing this skill
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and EYFS and how to deliver this to children with EHCPs
  • Passion for children with SEND and willingness to go the extra mile to include them
